I really like the unspoken element of this poem; while some of it may well be a knowing nod to what my parents sometimes termed ‘sailor talk’, I also think it alludes to those moments which are cherished as special memories, even if they may not necessarily seem like they will become that at the time. I think it might be a father/son thing, but I felt it and understood it.

    • It’s true my father was a sailor and knew the language well. The poem was a memory of a long forgotten moment (inspired or recalled actually – by a bout with blackflies!)… The last stanza was about intimacy. You got it Michael. Thank you.
